Racing
The racing program of OLSC is designed to provide a challenge to the experienced
sailor as well as an opportunity for the new sailer to experience sailboat
racing. Most of the boats in our racing program are monohull keel boats
ranging in length from 18 to 40 feet.
WHITE SAIL FLEET
The Whitesail Fleet is a non-spinnaker fleet which races on Thursday evenings
using the PHRF and Club Handicap system. If you have not raced before
this is the fleet for you. Experienced sailors are usually on hand to
go out with you and offer their help and knowledge to help you along.
OPEN FLEET
This is the more competitive fleet of our racing program for more experienced
sailors. The Open Fleet sails on Wednesday evenings using the PHRF system
and is split in two divisions. Division 1 includes boats with PHRF of
174 and below. Division 2 includes boats with PHRF above 174. Division
2 boats start first in the two start sequence, Division 1 boats start
5 minutes after Division 1 boats. Season champions will be determined
- one from Division 1 and one from Division 2, plus an "Overall"
Fleet champion.
Both fleets will have special holiday and weekend races as listed on
the race calendar.
Even if you do not have a boat you can still join the fun. Many boats
are always looking for crew. You can sign up for crew on our website or
you come out on a Thursday evening and someone will be happy to have you
along. The skippers meetings for the Thursday evening Whitesail Fleet
races are held at 6:00pm and 1:00pm for weekend afternoon races.
